Installing an eSIM

eSIM-Capable Teltonika Devices

Applies to: Teltonika devices with a physical eSIM built in. eSIM is only present on specific hardware variants of a model, not on every unit, so this should be checked on the specific device before following this guide.

What this is

eSIM refers to a SIM built into the device itself, rather than a removable physical card. It is activated using an activation code or a QR code, both supplied by Jola, instead of inserting a card. This guide covers installing an eSIM profile and then setting the eSIM to take priority over any physical SIM fitted, so that it becomes the device's primary connection.

Before starting, the device needs an existing internet connection through another route, such as a physical SIM already fitted, Ethernet, or Wi-Fi configured as WAN. This is required to download the eSIM profile, as the profile itself cannot be fetched over the eSIM connection before it has been installed.

Setting the eSIM as the default SIM

1. Log into the router's web interface and go to Network → Mobile → General.

2. Select the eSIM tab (shown as SIM2 (eSIM1) on devices with one physical SIM slot and one eSIM).

3. Switch Default SIM to on, then save and apply the changes. This must be done before the eSIM profile can be downloaded in the next section.

Installing the eSIM profile

1. Go to Network → Mobile → eSIM.

2. Under Add new eSIM profile, enter the activation code (LPA String) supplied by Jola, or use Browse to upload the activation QR code instead.

3. Optionally give the profile a name to help identify it later, for example the site or SIM number.

4. Click Download and wait for the device to fetch and install the profile.

Confirming the eSIM is active

1. Go to the Status page and confirm the eSIM profile shows as connected, with a live mobile connection.

Good to know

●       eSIM is only present on specific hardware variants of a model, not on every unit sold under that model name. This should be checked on the specific device before assuming the feature is available.

●       Setting the eSIM as the default SIM gives it priority. A physical SIM already fitted will no longer be used as the primary connection unless switched back, or a SIM Switch failover rule is configured between the two.
