Teltonika Routers - Bootstrap Profile

Understanding the "Bootstrap eSIM Profile Detected" Message

eSIM-Capable Teltonika Devices

Applies to: Any Teltonika device with eSIM capability, whether or not an eSIM is currently in use

What this is

Every eSIM-capable device leaves the factory with a small bootstrap profile already present on its eSIM chip. This is normal and is not a fault. Its only purpose is to allow the device to briefly connect and download a full eSIM profile if one is ever installed. Because of this, an eSIM-capable device shows a notification banner on its Status → Overview page referencing this bootstrap profile, regardless of whether the device is actually using an eSIM.

The Bootstrap eSIM profile message on the Status → Overview page.

If the device is using a physical SIM

If a physical SIM is already fitted and in use, this message can be safely ignored. It is only informing you that a bootstrap profile is present on the device's eSIM chip so that an eSIM can be set up in future, it does not mean anything is wrong with the current connection. The message can be dismissed using the X in the corner of the banner, and it will not affect the device's normal operation.

If an eSIM is wanted instead

If you do want to move the device onto an eSIM connection, do not use the bootstrap profile itself, as it only provides limited connectivity for downloading a real profile. Instead, follow the steps in the Installing an eSIM and Setting It as the Primary Connection guide, which covers setting the eSIM as the default SIM and installing the activation code or QR code supplied by Jola.

Good to know

This message is expected behaviour on eSIM-capable hardware and appears whether or not the device has a physical SIM fitted.

Dismissing the banner with the X does not remove the bootstrap profile itself, it only hides the notification. The profile stays in place ready for future use.

The Open Mobile General button on the banner leads to the same Network → Mobile → General page used in the eSIM installation guide.
