Teltonika Routers - Backup and Restore

Backing Up and Restoring a Router's Configuration

RUTX50 / RUT200 / RUT901 / OTD500

Applies to: All four models — steps confirmed on RUT200; menu wording may vary slightly by model/firmware

What this is

A backup should be taken before making any significant change to a router's settings, such as a firmware update, a major configuration change, or before redeploying the device to a different site. If something goes wrong, the configuration can be restored exactly as it was.

System → Maintenance → Backup — the Create Backup panel (Teltonika RUT200 documentation).

Taking a backup

1. Log into the router and go to System → Maintenance → Backup.

2. Under Create Backup, select the backup type: Configuration backup, which checks each section is valid on restore, or Device backup, which is a raw copy.

3. Turn on Encrypt if the file should be password protected. This applies AES-256 encryption and compresses the file into a zip archive. Set a password if this option is used.

4. Click Download and save the file to an appropriate location. Including the date and device name in the filename is recommended.

Restoring a backup

1. Go to the Restore Configuration section.

2. Switch on Encrypted if the file was password protected, then use Browse to select it.

3. Enter the password if the file is encrypted, then click Upload archive.

4. The device will display checksums for the uploaded file. Compare these against the values noted when the backup was taken, then click Proceed.

Good to knows

A backup can only be restored onto an identical device (same product code) running the same firmware version or newer. It cannot be restored onto a different model, and cannot be restored onto an older firmware version than the device had when the backup was taken.

The backup file also stores any SIM PIN configured on the device, but this is only restored if the device does not already have a PIN set. It will not overwrite an existing PIN.
