RMS Alerts & Automations

Applies to: Any device managed in RMS.

What this is

This feature allows you to automate specific actions based on trigger conditions, removing the need to log into RMS manually to check on device status. Once a rule is configured, RMS monitors for the specified condition and carries out the chosen action automatically. A common example is being notified when a device goes offline.

A separate guide already covers one specific automation — Smart Roaming Automation, which resets the modem when signal strength is low. This guide covers the general feature, which can be configured with any trigger, for any device or group of devices.

Steps

1. Log into RMS and go to Management → Alerts & Automations.

2. Click Actions, then Create Automation.

3. Select which devices the rule applies to. Individual devices can be selected, or a tag (see the Adding Tags guide) so that the rule automatically covers every device with that tag, including any added later.

4. Set the trigger condition. Select a parameter to monitor from the Select Parameter dropdown, then choose a comparison (for example, equal to, greater than) and a value. The available parameters are listed below.

5. If needed, add further conditions to the same rule using Else If, so that more than one parameter can be checked before the rule takes action. Each additional condition can have its own action.

6. Select the action RMS should take when the trigger occurs. The available options for your account are shown in a dropdown menu.

7. Save the rule, then confirm it shows as Active in the Alerts & Automations list.

Available trigger parameters

The Select Parameter dropdown groups the available conditions as follows. Where a device has two SIM slots or two modems, most parameters also have a matching "(Secondary)" version covering the second slot or modem.

●       Connection and signal: Device connection type, Device uptime, Mobile connection state, Mobile connection type, Mobile connection uptime, Mobile signal, Network state, Mobile operator, Mobile operator number, Modem temperature, Cell ID, LAC, TAC, MCC, MNC, RSRP, RSRQ, RSCP, SINR, ECIO.

●       SIM and identity: SIM slot, SIM state, PIN state, ICCID.

●       Data and traffic: Mobile IP, WAN IP, WAN protocol, RX, TX, Sent, Received.

●       Device software: Firmware, Bootloader version.

Good to know

●       It is recommended to test a new rule on a single device before applying it to a tag covering the full device fleet.

●       This feature complements, rather than replaces, the existing Smart Roaming Automation guide, which is a specific pre-built example of this same feature.

●       A rule is not limited to a single condition. Additional filtering conditions can be layered onto a rule using Else If, allowing more advanced automations to be built without needing several separate rules.
