Jola offers international numbering for SIP Trunk and Teams Direct Routing services. We cover provisioning and numbering in over 180 countries with competitive outbound and inbound calling rates.
Whether you are interested in purchasing or porting international numbers, this guide will help you understand what requirements must be met and advise you what services might be needed.
Country of origin – The country which holds the number or range in question.
In-country dialling – Using the international number to call a number within the country of origin. Some countries, e.g. France, do not permit international carriers to provide French numbers that can make outbound calls to French numbers.
Inbound Calling – The ability for a number to receive calls.
Outbound Calling – The ability to make outbound calls.
Inbound Calling Service – A product that allows the customer to represent an international number to receive and make calls.
In those countries where in-country dialling is NOT prohibited or restricted, outbound calls including to the country of origin, are included in this service.
Two-way Calling Service – A product that allows for a number to receive and make outbound calls. This includes the countries where in-country dialling is normally restricted. Not supported in all countries.
International Emergency Services – Provides the ability for in-country breakout for the purpose for emergency services access.
Please read the following steps that need to be considered when purchasing or porting an international number:
Requirements placed by the country in question on the purchase or porting of international numbers are usually country and region specific. Depending whether the number is ported or activated, Jola will require information on how the number is/will be used, location of the user as well as the documentation needed to proceed with the request.
The documentation required might be in a form of utility bill, proof of residence, or certificate of business.
Once a request for international numbering purchase/port is sent, we will send you a list of documentation needed and restrictions that must be met.
Inbound Calling Service is a product that allows the customer to represent an international number to make and receive calls.
In-country dialling is where an International number is used to call a number within the country of origin.
In some countries in-country dialling is prohibited (outbound calls into country of origin are not possible but all other outbound calls are). Using France as an example, it is not possible for International carriers to provide French numbers which are used to make outbound calls to other French numbers (but please see Two-way Calling Service below).
The current list of the countries that prohibit in-country dialling is below but be aware that additional countries could impose restrictions and we may not get any warning (e.g. Singapore did not have any restrictions in place at the beginning of 2021).
In the countries listed above, if the customer needs to make outbound calls to country of origin, we can provide a Two-way Calling Service. This product allows a number to receive and make outbound calls. This service is not supported in all the countries, so please contact your Jola Account Manager to confirm if it’s available.
International Emergency Services provide the ability for in-country breakout for the purpose of emergency service access.
Two-way calling already includes this service (with the exception of those countries where Emergency Services are not available). However, if the Inbound Calling Service is needed there are two solutions to adding Emergency Services, depending on whether it is needed per location or per number.
This solution is ideal for customers who are purchasing/porting multiple numbers within one site. In this case we can provide a single SIP trunk into the country and a single additional number per location which acts as the local emergency contact address and can be shown as a caller ID for every number at that site when emergency service number is called.
This solution is ideal for customers whose numbers are at different locations (e.g. for home workers). In this case we can provide emergency services by providing a Two-way calling service per number instead of a standard Inbound Calling Service.
Please be aware, however, that we cannot provide Emergency Services in every country. Please ask your Jola Account Manager to confirm whether Emergency Services are available.
Please look at the price list to see the pricing of Emergency Services.
The following flow chart sums up the points above and provides an overview of the products and services that might be required in order to purchase or port an international number.
