Performing a Factory Reset

What this is

A factory reset clears some or all of a device's configuration and returns it to a known state. It does not change the device's firmware version, only its configuration. This is normally used as a last resort during troubleshooting, when a device cannot be reached any other way, or before a device is redeployed to a different site or customer.

Where possible, Jola recommends taking a backup of the device's configuration before resetting, using the steps in the Configuration Backup & Restore guide, as configuration cannot be recovered once a reset has been carried out.

Using the reset button (recommended)

This is Jola's recommended method and is usually the only option left when a device cannot be reached over the network to use its web interface, for example if it has lost connectivity or its login details are not known.

1. With the device powered on, locate the physical Reset button on the front or back panel.

2. Press and hold the Reset button for 12 to 20 seconds, until the signal strength LEDs flash.

3. Release the button and allow the device to restart. This can take a few minutes.

Using the web interface

If the device can still be reached over the network, a reset can alternatively be carried out from its web interface, which also allows a specific reset type to be chosen.

●       System settings: resets all configuration except RMS data, the mdcollect database, logs and any PIN code set on the SIM.

●       Factory defaults: resets the device to its factory configuration.

●       User's default configuration: resets the device to a previously saved custom configuration. This option stays greyed out until a default configuration has been created and saved on that device.

1. Log into the router's web interface and go to System → Maintenance → Reset Settings.

2. Under Reset settings, select the required Reset type.

3. Click Reset. The device will apply the change and restart, which can take a few minutes.

Confirming the reset

1. Browse to the device's local address and log in using the default login details on the label on the underside of the device.

2. You should be prompted to set a new password. This confirms the device has returned to its default setup.

Good to know

●       The reset button does not offer a choice of reset type. It is intended for situations where the device cannot be reached any other way.

●       System settings is the web interface option that changes the least, as it leaves RMS data in place. Factory defaults resets the device more broadly.
